Cornwall Tourism Awards
The winners of the Cornwall Tourism Awards 2008 were announced at the Headland Hotel, Newquay on Thursday 16th October.
In addition to the glory which comes with winning the Cornwall Tourism Awards, this year the gold, silver and bronze winners in each category will be automatically entered for the South West Regional Awards and ultimately the National Excellence Awards.
Flame haired, comic genius Ruby Wax was the guest speaker for the award ceremony at the Headland Hotel, and sent the 300 attendees into fits of laughter with tales of her past visits to Cornwall. Ruby's quips offered light-hearted relief to an otherwise emotional evening as the award finalists jostled for space on the winners roll.
Prior to the Awards night, Ruby Wax had enthused: "Like many people Cornwall is a special place of mine. My visits were always so much fun; thinking about them still makes me laugh now. It was in Cornwall that I had my one and only attempt at surfing...never again. I ended up with a broken toe and one bruised ego!"
