Steam Shanty Evenings
Join us for shanty songs, pasty’s, pints, and a trip on our steam train this 2024! Being a hit to our passengers last year, the Lemonaires (from Falmouth) are back again to perform a variety of songs about mining, fishing, farming and shanties.
Arrive at Bodmin General Station for the event start at 7 p.m., where you will be greeted by The Lemonaires and their first set of shanty songs. Pick up a drink and watch as they fill the station with their songs. Board the train after their first set for a single line trip down to Boscarne Junction, step off the train or listen from your seat as the acapella group begin their second set.
Steam your way back to Bodmin General for the second half of the second set. Don’t forget to pick up a lyric sheet handout so you can sing along too.
Your ticket includes a Cornish pasty and a drink on arrival. All tickets must be booked in advance, and remember to choose your pasty type when paying for them.
Please be aware that single tickets or couples may be seated with other couples.
Please note we do NOT allow dogs on our event trains.
2024 Gala Dates
Spring Steam Gala – 25th and 26th of May
Expect to see at least two engines in steam, with Judy hauling brake vans and/or our seated clay wagon. Ride all day with rover tickets and enjoy the nostalgia of the steam era. Likely to be locomotives on display, such as the Beattie Well Tank and Austerity. Workshops tours may also be available.

Kids go free for the entire weekend – with free activity sheets too, guaranteed fun for all the family.
China Clay Gala – 7th and 8th of September
Celebrate our china clay heritage at Bodmin Railway with our China Clay Gala. A mixed-traction event, expect to see engines in steam and our diesel home fleet out and about. Something for everyone and not one to miss!
Diesel Gala – 28th and 29th of September
Our last gala weekend of the year, filled with purely diesel locomotives. Expect to see Class 47 and 50 out and about, with the chance of CDA Wagons and brake van rides.
Please note that all of our galas may be subject to change, due to unforeseen engineering or operational issues.
